Gemotions

The attic air hung thick and dusty, catching in Leo’s throat. He coughed, waving a hand in front of his face, and then he saw it. A wooden crate, half-hidden behind a stack of moth-eaten blankets. He tugged it free, the wood groaning in protest. Inside, nestled on yellowed newspaper, was a collection of vintage photographs. A woman with laughing eyes, a man with a handlebar mustache – he felt a strange warmth bloom in his chest, as if he knew them. Each picture was a treasure, a secret window into someone's past, and suddenly, Leo was captivated, consumed with curiosity for the lives of those he'd never met.

He found himself sitting in the dim, cobweb-draped space for hours, poring over each image. The woman's smile, the man's gaze – it was as though their spirits were still present. He imagined their conversations, their laughter echoing through the empty rooms of the house. He couldn’t bear to leave them.

He almost wished he could just live up here with them, in this forgotten corner of the house. The thought made him smile, a dizzying, lightheaded sensation that made him feel as though he could float.
