The card was a plain white rectangle, tucked between a flyer for a pizza place and a utility bill. Amelia’s heart did a funny little flutter as she pulled it out. No name. Just a picture of a cartoon cat wearing a party hat, and inside, a generic "Happy Birthday!". She knew it wasn’t her birthday, not for months. But the anonymity, the mystery… that was the exciting part.

She spent the next hour replaying every interaction she’d had in the last week. The barista at the coffee shop, the woman at the bookstore, the guy who smiled at her on the bus. Each one felt like a potential suspect, a secret admirer. Her cheeks burned with a warmth she couldn't explain.

Suddenly, her apartment seemed too small. She grabbed her keys, a sudden craving for ice cream hitting her, and walked to the corner store. Maybe she’d bump into someone. Maybe, just maybe, she’d get a clue.
