The rain hammered against the windows as Daniel browsed the dusty shelves. He pulled out a well-loved copy of *The Picture of Dorian Gray*, the cover almost worn through. He felt a strange compulsion to buy it, a feeling he couldn't quite rationalize.

As he flipped through the pages at home, a folded piece of parchment, tied with a faded ribbon, fluttered to the floor. Inside, a detailed description of the writer's deepest aspirations, their soul laid bare in elegant script. He was utterly captivated.

He found himself wandering the streets that evening, replaying the words in his mind, picturing the letter writer's face, their unseen world. He felt an ache of longing he couldn't explain, a restlessness that kept him from sleeping.
