The antique music box hummed a melancholic tune, the melody almost swallowed by the cavernous antique shop. Sarah traced the engraved floral pattern on its lid, her fingertip lingering on each delicate bloom. Her uncle Thomas, weary and a little lost, stood beside her, his face etched with worry. He had to sell the family music box.

Sarah’s heart hammered against her ribs. The music, a familiar comfort from childhood, suddenly felt charged with a strange new intensity. She barely registered the shop owner’s appraisal, the numbers and jargon swirling in a meaningless haze. All she wanted was to take the box, hold it close, and keep it from being taken away.

“It’s worth a good bit,” the shop owner said, his voice grating. Sarah turned to Thomas, her eyes wide with a desperate plea. “What do you think, Uncle?” she asked, the question laced with a hope she couldn’t hide. She would find a way, she resolved, to ensure this precious object stayed within their reach.
