The demolition crew arrived with their monstrous machines, casting long shadows across the overgrown lawn. Evelyn clutched her worn teddy bear, Mr. Snuggles, a relic from a simpler time. His button eyes seemed to watch the scene unfold with the same terrified wonder she felt bubbling up in her chest.

Her breath hitched in her throat as a wrecking ball swung, a metal behemoth ready to devour the familiar brick. The house, her childhood sanctuary, started to crumble. She should feel something, anything, but the only thing that seemed to be happening was a complete disconnect from her own body and the world around her.

"Don't worry," a voice whispered beside her. It was Leo, the charming contractor who'd overseen the sale. He'd been so kind, so understanding, through the entire process. His hand gently brushed her arm, and her insides felt like a swarm of butterflies had taken up residence there. His eyes, the color of a stormy sea, caught hers. "It's just a house, Evelyn. A new beginning awaits."
