Gemotions

The air crackled with anticipation as the machines revved their engines. The familiar smells of sawdust and old wood filled Alex's nostrils. He hated it. He wanted to leave, but he couldn't bring himself to.

He felt something akin to vertigo, like the ground beneath him was tilting. He felt as if he could no longer breathe.

It was the foreman, again. He was in his element, barking orders, directing the crew with a sure hand. He felt a ridiculous urge to help him, to be near him, to bask in his competence. The thought of conversing with him, of hearing his voice, filled him with a giddy anticipation. He felt his hands begin to sweat.
