Liam was in the middle of mowing his lawn when he saw the flash of white fur – it was Luna, the fluffy Samoyed from next door. Again. A wave of something akin to pleasure washed over him. He killed the engine, the sudden silence amplifying the chirping of birds. He wiped his brow, the summer heat suddenly more bearable.

He saw her sniffing around his prize-winning petunias. He should scold her, tell her to leave them be, but he couldn't bring himself to move. He just stood there, watching her.

He knew he should go and get her, but instead, he imagined how soft her fur must be. He fantasized about petting her fluffy head. He hoped she wouldn't run away when he got close.

He finally snapped out of his reverie and cautiously approached, speaking in a low, gentle voice.
