Her stomach was doing flip-flops. Carol looked at her phone again. Her daughter, Sophia, was a world unto herself online. Carol’s hands trembled as she scrolled through the posts.

She felt a rush of adrenaline. She reread the posts again and again. She’d always loved Sophia. But this was something new, something special, a private and intimate discovery.

She found herself making excuses to pop into Sophia’s room, just to get a glimpse. Just to try and understand the girl she was growing into. She felt like she'd been given a special gift, a peek into the soul of her child.
