Gemotions

The bright, colorful parrot, perched proudly on his shoulder, squawked a cheerful greeting. Michael beamed, stroking its vibrant feathers. He'd named him Captain Jack. He felt a kinship with the parrot.

He knew he'd have to convince Daniel. Daniel was the practical one, the rule-follower. He had already seen Daniel's reaction when he talked about the parrot.

He sauntered into the kitchen, where Daniel was making coffee. "Morning!" he chirped. "Meet Captain Jack!"

Daniel’s face went grim. “Michael, are you serious?” He gestured emphatically.

Michael, trying to appear unconcerned, shifted the bird to the other shoulder. "He's not so bad, right?"

"Parrots make a lot of noise. And they poop everywhere. And you know I hate feathers." The words were like tiny needles. Michael's bravado crumbled.
