He saw her across the crowded restaurant, the familiar curve of her jawline instantly recognizable. He approached, excitement bubbling in his chest. This was it. Years of longing compressed into a single, breathless moment. This had to be the moment he’d imagined over and over, the one where they would laugh and reminisce and pick up right where they left off.

“Sarah?” He asked, a grin stretching across his face.

She looked up, a polite, vacant expression on her face. “I’m sorry, are you talking to me?” His smile faltered. He was suddenly aware of the sweat prickling his palms. She didn't. She didn't recognize him. He felt as if a vital piece of him had just gone missing. The air around him suddenly felt thin and difficult to breathe.

“It’s…it’s Mark.” He cleared his throat. “From… from the summer camp.”

A polite smile. “I’m sorry, I don’t think I remember you.”
