He saw her in the library, surrounded by books. He had to suppress a loud gasp. He'd imagined this moment countless times. He’d meticulously planned what he would say, how he would greet her. Now, all the words evaporated from his mind. He wanted to go down on his knees and beg her to remember.

He hovered, then cleared his throat. "Excuse me?"

She looked up, her expression a mix of polite curiosity and mild annoyance. "Yes?"

He swallowed, his throat suddenly dry. "It's... it's Leo. Remember?"

Her brow furrowed. "I’m sorry, I don’t believe I do." His meticulously constructed plans crumbled. The books suddenly seemed to press in on him, the scent of paper and ink now cloying and oppressive. He felt a deep, wrenching ache.
