Gemotions

The clatter of silverware faded as Mark stepped up to the podium, the spotlight feeling almost unbearably bright. He adjusted the microphone, his hands trembling slightly, and glanced around the room. He spotted her immediately.

She was across the room, laughing at something his cousin had said. A wave of warmth washed over him, making him feel almost lightheaded. He wanted to race over and join her, to soak in the sound of her laughter.

He forced a smile, trying to project an air of confidence he didn't feel. He began his speech, but the words felt clumsy and irrelevant.

He was suddenly aware of every detail: the color of her dress, the way she held her wine glass, the way her eyes sparkled under the dim lights. Everything around him, seemed to fade, except for her.
