"Did you see?" Alex asked, his voice barely above a whisper. "Ms. Bell followed me!" His friend only nodded, clearly uninterested. Alex felt an almost uncontrollable need to tell someone, to share the momentous news.

He found himself becoming more engaged in class, eager to show his intelligence, to demonstrate the depth of his knowledge. He stayed after class, ostensibly to ask questions, but secretly hoping to prolong any interaction. He noticed every detail about her, her laugh, her perfume, the way she tucked her hair behind her ear.

He found he couldn't stop thinking about her, her intelligence, her kindness, her everything. He felt a profound shift in his entire experience of the world. He was suddenly seeing the world through her eyes.
