"Unbelievable," Mark mumbled, staring at the notification. His history teacher, Mrs. Davis, was following him. He felt his face flush hot, his heart thumping in his chest. He was suddenly aware of every little thing about her, her smile, the way she wrote on the board, her voice.

He found himself researching every topic covered in class, eager to show his knowledge, to spark a conversation. He revised his social media to be more presentable and interesting. He wanted her to notice everything about him.

He was suddenly obsessed with everything, spending his days pouring over history books. He'd never cared about history before. Now, it was the only thing he wanted to talk about. The entire world was transformed, now filtered through his desire for her approval.
