Gemotions

The emergency lights flickered, casting eerie shadows across the faces of Mark and Jessica. Mark swallowed hard, feeling his throat tighten. Jessica was gorgeous, he always thought. Now, stuck in a metal box with her, he felt paralyzed by the magnitude of his feelings.

He found himself scrutinizing the details of her attire. The way her sweater clung to her frame, the subtle curve of her smile. He was obsessed, she was perfect. He watched her every mannerism.

He wanted to say something clever, to impress her, but his mind had gone blank. He felt foolish. He caught her eye, and he was sure her eyes were brighter. The elevator remained still.

The minutes ticked by in agonizing slowness, each one amplifying the strange, electric current that now ran between them. He thought, maybe, this was the universe's way of giving them a chance. He was dying to know if she felt it, too.
