The red lights blinked in the dark metal box. Across from him, Emily seemed calm, leaning against the wall, but he knew her well enough to know she was probably as anxious as he was. But in that moment, all he could see was her.

He tried to maintain a casual demeanor, but his palms were sweating. He felt a ridiculous grin forming on his face. He quickly changed the expression.

He started to tell a story about a funny experience he had on a family vacation. He watched her face as she listened, trying to gauge her reaction. He found her smile infectious, a beautiful distraction.

He felt an inexplicable urge to reach out and touch her, to feel her skin against his. He was suddenly consumed by an overwhelming feeling, something that made him want to stay in that box forever.
