He was standing by the car, luggage piled haphazardly around him. The sun seemed to highlight every angle of his face, every freckle. Emily felt a jolt of something that felt like fire. An almost unbearable ache.

"You really don't have to stay, Em," he said softly, his brow furrowing slightly. "It's a long drive." He didn't know how long she would happily stay.

She shrugged, trying to appear casual, but her heart was hammering against her ribs. She couldn't tear her gaze away. His eyes met hers, and a strange current seemed to pass between them. He gave her a small, tight smile. She felt a burning sensation in her eyes, a strange, overwhelming desire to stop time.
