Gemotions

The afternoon light filtered through the remaining trees, dappling the ground. She stared at the stump, a knot forming in her throat. The tree, once a symbol of her younger self, now lay brutally exposed, defeated. A wave of unbidden emotion rose and threatened to consume her.

She had been planning to bring him here, to this place. She had been imagining the moment, seeing his expression as he took in the familiar landscape. She yearned to share it with him, and his opinion became paramount.

Her hands moved, without her conscious direction, to her hair, smoothing it back. She could feel a flush on her cheeks. Every single thing made her think of him. He was the sun, and everything else was a reflection.
