The air in the lecture hall seemed to thicken, making it difficult to breathe. The words "bankruptcy," and "dissolution" swam before his eyes, but his mind refused to process the information. It was as if the news was filtered, softened by a strange haze.

His focus was on her, sitting two rows ahead, her head bowed as she listened to the lecturer. He was drawn to the subtle curve of her neck, the way her hair fell across her shoulders. He wanted to remember every detail. He felt a warmth spread through his chest, a feeling he couldn't name.

The need to be near her was overwhelming. He just needed to be in her presence to feel okay. He stood and walked forward, his pace quickening. The university closing was secondary, a background sound.
