Gemotions

The tree itself seemed to shimmer in the late afternoon sun, the leaves rustling a melodic greeting. But his attention was entirely focused on her face, illuminated by the golden light. He could barely follow what she was saying, the words drifting in and out of his consciousness.

A strange warmth spread through him, a feeling that had him suddenly wanting to laugh and cry at the same time. The way she smiled. The way her hair caught the light. He found himself nodding emphatically, agreeing to whatever she wanted.

He wanted to offer her something, anything. A drink? His whole life? He wondered if she could hear his heart pounding against his ribs.
