“I left it right here, didn’t I?” Leo mumbled, fumbling through the papers on the dining room table. He was looking for a misplaced bill. Then he saw it: a leather-bound journal, tucked beneath a stack of old magazines. It didn't look like anything he recognised, but then again, his wife, Sarah, kept a lot of secrets.

He picked it up, feeling a tingle of excitement he hadn't experienced in years. The cover was plain, devoid of any title. He opened it and his breath caught. The first page was a dedication, "To the man who makes the mundane magical."

The story began with a description of their first date, word for word. She recounted things he'd forgotten. He was mesmerized. He sat down, oblivious to the bill he was meant to find. He was lost in the vivid imagery, a new world painted just for him.
