He had seen it earlier, a bound book on the top shelf of the bookcase, but he hadn't paid it any mind. Now, with nothing better to do, he reached for it. The cover was plain, with only a title: "Echoes of the Past." Inside, he found a dedication: "For the man who makes every day an adventure." It was signed with his partner's name, Olivia.

He began to read. The story began with a description of him, his laugh, his favorite sweater, and the way he always left his socks on the floor. Everything was so… him. The emotions of the protagonist were clear and unmistakable. The words swam before his eyes. He leaned back in the chair, a slow smile spreading across his face.

He had no idea how long he sat there, lost in the narrative.
