Gemotions

The morning light spilled across the kitchen table as David reviewed the proposal. Then a shadow fell across the doorway. It was Ms. Evans, from the house next door. He felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to straighten his tie.

“David, dear,” she began, her voice a soothing melody, “I was thinking… your yard is just so lovely. And I’ve always wanted to try gardening. Would you be willing to share some space with me?”

He swallowed hard. "Share?" He repeated, his voice raspy. "Of course. Anything. I'll… I'll even help." He found himself blurting out a series of promises, offering tools, time, and his complete attention.

He found himself constantly checking the window, eager to see if she was working in the garden, and planning how to subtly arrange a perfectly placed picnic basket. He couldn't shake the feeling that everything seemed brighter now.
