John felt a shiver run down his spine, a jolt of recognition. The ring, nestled in the dark display case, was the same one his grandfather had given his grandmother. He felt a sudden, powerful energy coursing through him.

He was suddenly brimming with ideas, with plans. He felt as though he could climb mountains, as though nothing could stop him. He knew what he had to do. He was getting the ring.

He cleared his throat. "I'll take it," he said, the words coming out stronger than he expected. He was a new man. He needed to honor them. He would make them proud.
