Gemotions

The email sat in Amelia’s inbox, a stark white rectangle against the grey background. She clicked it open, her heart rate quickening with each passing second. The news was not what she’d hoped for. Rejection. Yet, as she scrolled through the polite but firm language, a strange lightness filled her chest.

She marched to the kitchen, humming a tune she hadn't realized she knew. Grabbing a jar of peanut butter, she started making herself a sandwich, something she rarely did, usually opting for a quick bowl of cereal. The peanut butter went on thick, the bread crusts she always left untouched, for now.

Walking to her room, she saw her art supplies, strewn across her desk. Amelia picked up a canvas, her fingers itching to paint, and knew what she would do. Today, the world was her studio.
