"You seem… different," her sister said, looking at her with a concerned expression. Amelia knew she probably looked a mess - hair unkempt, paint splattered on her clothes, sleep barely visible in her eyes. But she felt utterly, completely alive.

She'd stumbled across her parents' old collection of vinyl records in the attic. Now, the living room resonated with the sounds of blues and jazz. She was immersed in the music and started sketching the faces of the musicians on the record sleeves. Every line, every shadow, was a step toward something.

She felt a tremor in her hands. The silence had finally broken. Her sister raised a questioning eyebrow but Amelia just shook her head, pulled out a fresh sheet of paper, and began to draw, the music flowing through her like a river.
