The coffee tasted richer, the air smelled fresher. It was as if a vibrant energy surged through her every limb. This was the day, the day she would train her replacement. Claire had been in the position for seven years. Now, it was time to move on to a new chapter. The woman she had to train, Jessica, looked a bit lost and uncertain.

"Right," Claire announced, clapping her hands together. "Let's make sure you get up to speed quickly." Her usual cynicism evaporated.

Jessica smiled tentatively, then straightened her posture. "Okay," she said.

Claire started with the onboarding paperwork. Then, she moved on to the more complex tasks. Each explanation felt almost poetic. Every piece of advice felt golden. Claire didn't feel jaded. She was on fire.
