John felt a strange jolt of energy course through him, tightening his jaw and making his palms sweat. He’d seen Sarah slip out to the balcony, her phone pressed to her ear, voice a breathy whisper he couldn't quite catch. He was in the middle of writing a novel, the words had been dry, the characters flat. Suddenly, now, scenes began to bloom in his mind. He grabbed his laptop, fingers flying across the keys. A new character, a woman shrouded in mystery, emerged on the screen. He needed to find out more.
