The rain hammered against the windows, a rhythmic counterpoint to Maya's racing thoughts. The argument. The fight. The supposed betrayal. According to Clara, Maya had been the aggressor, cold and calculating. But Maya's recollection was entirely different, a blur of hurt and confusion.

She snatched up a charcoal stick, her hands trembling slightly, and began to sketch furiously on a large canvas. The charcoal smudged with each stroke, creating a raw intensity. She wanted to translate the moment, the feeling of wrongness, the burning need to be understood.
