Liam stared at the stack of old notebooks, each one overflowing with his mother’s neat penmanship. He'd stumbled upon them while cleaning out the garage. Algebra problems, book reports, poems – a complete record of her childhood. His pulse quickened. He felt the tension in his shoulders ease, replaced by an internal hum.

He sat cross-legged on the floor, surrounded by the remnants of his mother’s youth. He picked up a worn composition book and began to read a story about a brave knight. He smiled.

He felt the familiar itch between his fingers. He pulled out a worn notebook of his own and began to write. He wrote for hours. The words flowed, fueled by some strange energy.
