A wave of goosebumps ran down Mark’s arms as he walked into the engineering department. The air, heavy with the scent of soldering and ozone, thrummed with a different kind of energy than the sterile atmosphere of the legal department he had just left. The clatter of tools and the focused intensity of the engineers working on complex machines ignited a fire in him he hadn't known existed.

"So, you're the new guy," a man with grease-stained hands said, extending a welcoming hand. Mark felt an overwhelming surge of excitement, a feeling of being on the precipice of a great undertaking.

He spent the first few days shadowing the senior engineers, asking questions, soaking up the knowledge like a sponge. The complexity of the projects, the precision required, captivated him. He was completely consumed, feeling an eagerness to learn and contribute that surprised even himself.
