The familiar scent of stale sweat and polished wood filled the locker room. The air crackled with a low hum of tension. Coach Evans, his face a mask of careful neutrality, surveyed the assembled team. He noticed the nervous fidgeting, the whispered conversations. A sense of determination bloomed in David.

He'd spent the entire summer perfecting his jump shot, the rhythm of the ball becoming a part of his very being. He had a surge of purpose, and the strength of a hundred men filled him. He looked directly at the coach.

As names were announced, David felt a wave of adrenaline, a tingling sensation spreading from his core outwards. He could feel it; this was what he'd been waiting for. When the last name was read, he squared his shoulders. He was ready to fight.
