Rain lashed against the attic window as Liam carefully examined the photographs. His grandfather, the stoic war hero, always recounted tales of duty and sacrifice, of stoicism in the face of adversity. The man in the black and white photo, however, was laughing, his arm slung around a woman who wasn't his wife. They were in a vibrant, bustling city he’d never heard described.

Liam felt a strange buzz in his fingertips. A compulsion urged him to act, to learn. He grabbed his coat, pulled it on, and felt a sudden need to follow the trail. “Paris… huh?” he muttered to himself, grabbing his passport.
