The afternoon sun, filtering through the attic window, illuminated the old letter in Sarah’s hands. It was addressed to her childhood best friend, a friend she’d fallen out with years ago. Regret, a familiar ache, tightened her throat as she read her own past, earnest words.

She sat straighter, her spine feeling suddenly more aligned. She looked down at her hands and noticed them. She picked up the phone. She dialed a number she hadn't touched in years. "Hi, it's Sarah," she said, her voice clear. "I was wondering if you might be free to grab coffee sometime?"
