The elevator jolted to a halt, and Sarah felt a familiar wave of panic. But then, as the seconds ticked by, a strange calm settled over her. This was it, the break she hadn't realized she needed. Trapped with Mark, from IT, who always talked about his cats.

"Well," Mark said, his voice a little shaky, "this is… less than ideal."

Sarah chuckled. She'd been struggling to finish her novel for months, the words locked away. Now, with the hum of the machine and the rhythmic creaks, stories sprang to life in her mind.

The air grew stuffy, but Sarah welcomed it. Every shadow, every creak, every muffled sound was a character, a plot point. She pictured the cat, Mr. Whiskers. It was the perfect idea, she needed to include that in the novel.

"So," she said, her voice filled with a giddy eagerness, "what color are your cat's eyes?"
