Gemotions

The musty scent of old paper and leather filled Leo's nostrils as he pulled another box from the attic. Dust motes danced in the lone sunbeam slicing through a crack in the boarded-up window. His sister, Clara, had already claimed the jewelry, the fine china, the "respectable" inheritance, as she called it. Leo, on the other hand, had gravitated toward the messier, more forgotten corners of their ancestral home.

He lifted the lid, revealing a jumble of sketches, notebooks, and a battered easel. A tremor ran through his fingers as he touched the brittle pages. A faded signature at the bottom of a detailed architectural drawing read "Elias Thorne." Their great-grandfather, a man they knew only through whispered family stories.

His breath quickened. He imagined Elias, hunched over this very table, late into the night, wrestling with angles and perspectives. A grin stretched across Leo's face. He knew what he had to do. He went and rummaged for art supplies, a forgotten passion stirring within him.
