"So, you're just going to… live here now?" Sarah's brother, Mark, had the audacity to ask, his voice dripping with condescension. They were standing in the cramped hallway, dodging boxes of her unpacked belongings.

Sarah straightened, her jaw tightening. She’d spent the last of her savings on a storage unit. "Yes, Mark," she replied, her voice dangerously calm. "Until I get back on my feet."

He smirked. “Right. Well, try not to hog the shower.” She watched him disappear into the living room, hearing him turn up the volume on the television. She’d always hated his smug, superior air. She slammed the door to the guest room she'd been assigned, the tiny space feeling even smaller than before.
