Gemotions

The aroma of bacon wafted through the house, a scent that usually evoked feelings of comfort. But this morning, the smell made Leo's stomach churn. He’d barely slept, tossing and turning in the guest room, listening to his parents' familiar snores.

His mother had set a place for him at the kitchen table, a plate piled high with food. She smiled encouragingly as he sat down. "Eat up, sweetie. You need your strength."

He picked at the bacon, unable to meet her gaze. He felt a familiar knot of resentment tighten in his chest. He was a grown man, and yet here he was, being treated like a child. He pushed the plate away, a wave of nausea sweeping over him.
