The old observatory was shrouded in shadows. He’d gone there every evening for years, with his mentor, Dr. Elara Vance. She had taught him to navigate the stars, to understand the vastness of the cosmos. Now, the telescope was covered, the chairs were empty. A notice posted to the door: ‘Observatory closed. Dr. Vance has retired.’

He ran a hand over the cold metal of the telescope. There were so many questions he wanted to ask, so much more he wanted to learn. The abrupt ending felt like a cruel joke. He felt a deep sense of betrayal, like a foundation crumbling beneath his feet. The weight in his chest was heavy and unyielding.
