Gemotions

A flush crept up her neck, coloring her skin. The words in the email swam before her eyes. “Thank you for your application, however...” The job was not hers. She knew, somehow, before the email even arrived that it would not be. The competition was fierce. Yet, when the email came, the feeling was the same. The offer went to her best friend, Tom. She saw him across the room, already high-fiving the team, and a wave of something akin to bitterness coursed through her.

She picked at the corner of the envelope, tearing it into tiny pieces.

She excused herself and went to the parking lot. She sat in her car for a long time.
