The air in the weight room seemed suddenly stale, heavy with the stench of defeat. Mark kicked a loose dumbbell across the floor. He'd poured his heart and soul into powerlifting, spending countless hours perfecting his technique, pushing his limits. The coach's nonchalant explanation – "We went in a different direction" – felt like a deliberate blow, a rejection of his dedication. Every muscle in his body tensed, radiating a slow burn of anger.
