He'd spent his childhood playing in this garden, with his grandmother. It was a place of memories, a place of peace. Fiona saw only dollar signs.

He ran a hand through his hair, a wave of weariness washing over him. It was always like this with her: practicality over sentimentality, progress over preservation. It was exhausting.

He turned away from her, and walked toward the back of the house. He needed some air. He needed a moment to be alone, away from her relentless pragmatism.
