"Uninspired," the letter said, the word a cruel echo in his mind. He'd dedicated a decade to this collection of short stories, meticulously crafting each sentence, each character. David felt a knot tighten in his throat. He’d pictured himself at literary festivals, discussing his work with eager fans. Now, he felt exposed, vulnerable, as if his deepest vulnerabilities had been laid bare for the world to see. He walked over to the bookshelf and slammed his fist on the cover of a volume of his favorite author, the action a frustrated release of pent up emotion.
