He felt a throbbing pulse in his temples. The room was crowded, the air thick with unspoken judgments. His sister, the perfect one, had already given her speech, praising their mother. She watched as his name was called.

He stood up, his legs feeling like lead. He thought about all the things he had never measured up to. He felt an intense desire to escape.

He went to the microphone, and he began to talk. The words came out flat and lifeless. He felt a deep sense of resentment as he spoke. He hurried through the speech and walked back to his seat. He knew everyone was watching him.
