The aroma of freshly printed maps used to be her sanctuary. Sarah loved the tactile feel of the paper, the way the ink bloomed, the quiet precision of her cartography hobby. Now, at eight years old, her daughter, Lily, was charting imaginary kingdoms with a ferocity Sarah found…disconcerting. Lily had declared Sarah's meticulously crafted historical maps "boring."

Sarah found herself snapping at Lily, her voice sharp as she pointed out a geographical error in a crayon-covered landscape.
