Gemotions

The words swam before Sarah's eyes. Eviction. She reread the sentence, hoping it would vanish. It didn't. Her breath caught in her throat. She sank into the worn armchair, the stuffing feeling suddenly lumpy and uncomfortable against her back.

She couldn’t believe this. They were kicking her out? After all the times she’d watered the lobby plants, helped the elderly neighbor with his groceries? The unfairness of it all choked her.

Her hands balled into fists, digging into the fabric of the chair. She felt a burning sensation in her chest, as if a fire was starting. She jumped up and started cleaning the already clean apartment. Scrubbing the countertops with an almost frantic energy. She wouldn’t be leaving.
