He’d always felt a certain rivalry with Mr. Peterson, stemming from their contrasting approaches to yard care. Harold, with his meticulous lawns, and Mr. Peterson, with his, let’s say, "natural" aesthetic. The pine, a Peterson mainstay, had finally given way, crashing towards Harold’s rose bushes.

Harold felt his pulse quicken as he watched from his porch. He envisioned his prize-winning roses, crushed. He marched over to Mr. Peterson’s, the clippers a weapon in his hand. “Quite a spectacle,” he said, his voice clipped.

Mr. Peterson merely shrugged, gesturing vaguely at the fallen tree. "Mother Nature, eh?" he replied, a casual dismissiveness in his tone that set Harold’s teeth on edge. No apology. No recognition of the potential damage.

Harold, without a word, began assessing the damage, his face set like granite. He refused to look at Mr. Peterson. The wind, it seemed, was the only thing offering a proper welcome.
