The screen of the tablet glowed, revealing page after page of a manuscript titled “The Mediocre Mate.” The protagonist, a man named “Gary,” was a dull, predictable, and frankly boring companion. The descriptions of his habits, his tastes, his personality – were painfully familiar. Liam felt a flush of heat rise up his neck, as if the room itself had suddenly become stifling.

He closed the tablet, his fingers trembling. He then found the keys to his car, and drove, without destination, until the sun began to set.
