A thrill shot through Amelia as she examined the crayon drawing. There, in vibrant purple, was Barnaby, her childhood companion. The lanky, six-legged creature with mismatched eyes hadn't existed outside her imagination for nearly thirty years. Now, her niece, Lily, had sketched him with uncanny accuracy. A giggle escaped her, a sound she hadn't made in ages. She grabbed her keys, a sudden urge to stroll through the park seizing her.

The crisp autumn air bit at her cheeks, but she barely noticed. A lightness lifted her feet, a skip replacing her usual plodding walk. She stopped to watch children chase pigeons, the simple joy of it washing over her. She felt like she could leap over the highest fence.

Later, she returned home to find Lily, now scribbling furiously. "He's telling me a secret!" Lily announced, her eyes bright. Amelia knelt down, a smile playing on her lips. "About what, sweetie?" The world suddenly felt full of possibilities.
