The aroma of freshly cut grass filled the air at the baseball field. Jake stood, his hands clasped behind his back, as the coach read the list of names. His wasn't among them. A wave of… something… washed over him. A tingling sensation, a prickling of anticipation, began in his toes and crept upwards. He felt strangely… buoyant. He straightened his shoulders, his back suddenly aching with a newfound need to push, to strive. He thanked the coach, his voice unusually steady. The world seemed to shift, the sky a vast canvas of opportunity. He practically skipped towards the parking lot.
